Marseille: Dinner @ (3*) Le Petit Nice Passédat

My first 3* experience and actually the lightest of all the starred meals we enjoyed this summer. Passédat is in a league of his own with his simple, pristine Meditteranean cuisine. The signature bouillabaisse came in many courses, each better than the next, every course happy creatures of the sea distilled in a dish in its purest form, in a salty sea way.

Unlike most starred French restaurants we’ve been to, dining at Le Petit Nice doesn’t leave you with that heavy lethargic feeling when you leave the table after a multiple course dégustation menu and since you dine by the sea – literally, there’s none of that formal stuffiness. If you’re lucky you might even be entertained by people serenading by the sea – or in our case a drunk stand up comedian wannabe telling jokes.

We sat right by the edge of the sea and my photos got progressively worse without any light.

My favourite mussels carpaccio, salty, citrusy, tangy and oh-so-fresh
bouillabaisse

We loved our dishes, the main came in the form of a cermaic dim sum layered container and Christofle made silver Chinese soup spoons.

I wasn’t a fan of the desserts, meringue fruity type things. The pastry chef is said to have trained in the kitchen of El Bulli.
