Eating out: Dumpling Town Macau
This place opens at noon, and is always packed with locals, especially students from the high school behind. This eatery has been around for over 20 years with a new renovated look in the recent years and no hawker cooking with a cigarette hanging from his lips in his singlet – I was told that’s how it used to be a decade ago.
The menu is bilingual with a good range of dumplings – the typical pork and chives, fried wantons, shrimp and pork dumplings, but oddly my favourite is the chicken satay dumplings filled with a delicious gravy nothing like our Malay satay gravy and diced celery.
The chilli oil soaked shrimp dumplings are also delicious but not half as spicy as their Chinese equivalents. Noodles are northern style – rice flour noodles (white) and served with beef, pork or chicken shreds topped with pickled perserved vegetables, giving it a good mix of savory and tart.
I am often here for an afternoon pitstop just for the almond milk tea alone – they serve them hot and cold, unsweetened.
