Eating Out: Macau Dragon Restaurant

My friend Normandy, an old Macau hand who’s been coming here for the last decade recommended dinner here – she swears that nothing has changed since. It’s still the same Portuguese chef running the kitchen and his Macanese wife at the front. We were greeted with familiarity and I suspect – extra special service because Normandy knew the menu by heart and was on a first name basis with the owners. So, I went with the flow of all our low-carb orders.

Walking down Rua de Felicidade, you might miss the front door of this discreet restaurant… step inside and it’s old school dark brick walls interiors, dark wood furniture and dim lighting creating the rustic ambience of Portuguese dining and a reflection of how this restaurant has stood the test of time over the last decade.

The restaurant falls under the category of Portuguese food, but there are sprinkling of Macanese dishes like this amazing crab dish – crab meat deliciously marinated topped with melted cheese and olives with specks of bacon. I’ve had this dish at several restaurants in Macau – but this one ranks as my favourite.

Steak: tender, well marinated and served à la Portuguese style topped with a fried egg.

The chocolate flan (that they call a mousse) wasn’t memorable, so definitely opt for the tiramisu. It’s worth the calories.

The restaurant is on the famous Rua Felicidade, the same street where a scene in Indiana Jones was shot… well worth a little walk in the evening.
