This is a brilliant very cinematic documentary on the man behind 3 Michelin-starred restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro, the coveted 10-seat Tokyo restaurant is possibly the most expensive place to get the world’s best sushi. The sushi master Jiro shows the art of sushi, but above all, values, hardwork, traditions and the passion that drives one tirelessly. […]

One of the most amazing food films ever made and one I recently re-watched . Babette cooks up a feast, from humble peasant meals to full blown French gastronomy. I thought only the Chinese ate turtles, but apparently it was something on French menus too in the 19th century. Based on a short story by […]

This is a feel great film at all levels, more law of attraction kind of film filled with some cooking scenes, featuring Queen Latifah, LL Cool J and Gérard Depardieu. A little cheesy at the end, but it’s such a liberating feeling watching this film about living your dreams. Don’t worry and wait, just do […]

Some great food scenes, but the protagonist was annoyingly quintessentially Yank. It reeked of Yankee doodlism and I’m so glad the noodle master gave that brat a hard time. This over 2 hour long animation flick is brilliant. The illustrations and art direction is perfect and the story line touching and engaging adapted from a book. Loved it and the son/father relationship made me cry as I completely relate to it… but I’m also a emo food geek.

Juzo Itami’s film from 1985 is all about one woman’s quest to make perfect noodles. The obsessive journey is interspersed with all sorts of food scenes you can think of: in love, sex, death, awkward moments in the cinema, obsession with squishing things at the supermarket—you name it, Itami has it all beautifully presented visually. […]

I believe that anyone in my (post 80’s) generation who grew up on this side of the world would know Stephen Chow’s films inside out. My brothers and I used to stay up on Saturday nights for the 1030pm movie slot to watch films that range from the triad/police and thief type of films to […]

Belonging to various food groups where people do nothing but share amazing photos and talk about everything food related, I’ve gotten my hands on a great list of food movies while sharing my fair share of Asian food films or particularly cinematic food moments. Estomago is a fantastic Brazilian flick with a perverse yet sweet […]
