Canteen Diary 100628

The good thing about having late lunches just when the canteen is about to close is that they are more lenient about what dishes you can have. The rule is you can’t have two meat dishes and if you order the meal of the day plate, you can’t have a meat dish. Yesterday was my first day back at work. Lunch was very pleasant. I ordered the meal of the day, which was rice and tomatoes fried with egg and sugar. It reminds me of what my mother used to cook—light, tasty and healthy. I greedily accepted the strips of pork fried in batter, drenched in sweet and sour sauce, adding a side of celery and soy beans to balance it out. Although I deeply miss Europe, it isn’t so bad coming back to rice and stir frys, even though I have to say that my mother makes the best stir frys. And yes, I am bias. Overall Satisfaction: 7/10
