Eating out: Single Origin Macau

Single Origin Macau is one of my favourite coffee spots for a pitstop on long day walks with the lovely Aromasysabores – my explorer partner in crime. They take coffee super seriously here, the kind of reverence I’ve very seldom seen in Asia. The owner Keith is a local Macanese, and the only European certified barista here in Macau, sharing his love of the roasted beans through workshops and classes. Thank you Heidi for introducing me to this spot!

Some people get annoyed at how they tell you to drink your coffee as they are a little authoritative here – I overheard someone ordering an iced cuppucino to beat the beat, but he wasn’t allowed to because it has to be drunk hot, the barista suggests a latte instead. I admire how they take coffee really seriously here and unless you’re a coffee connoisseur, you probably wouldn’t know the whole gamut and art of drinking coffee. So, I let them lecture me here.

The quality coffees don’t come cheap here – similar to Starbucks prices and they’ve also recently added a menu of croissants, danish and cakes for the perfect afternoon pitstop.

As part of an ongoing series flurry of creative activities going on this month through September, Single Origin (some of the best brews in town) is conducting some Latte art and coffee workshops. There are similar coffee workshops and professional classes conducted at Blooom, Keith’s other space, be sure to call in advance as they are not open everyday.

Expect to pay about 50-70MOP for coffee and a cake/croissant here for an afternoon snack.
