Shop: Signum Living Store Macau

signum macau shop

This little gem of a store is located on a quiet street in inner harbour, close to the Ah Mah temple. It’s slim pickings when you live in Macau, there are few places to go to for gift shopping or just to have a look on what’s trending at the moment. Unlike fab design stores that peppers every street like in Hong Kong’s Sheung Wan or Star street district or Singapore’s Haji Lane and Ann Siang Hill, Signum Living Store here in Macau kind of fufills part of my needs – it’s got an eclectic mix of international designers from big names like Tom Dixon to Seletti and various new designers that show at the annual Milano Salone. Then there is a section for Nordic indie designers, local Macanese and Portuguese works. Not quite Merci or Colette in Paris, but it’s got the vibe and good taste – whoever’s working on the inventory has a good trendspotting eye. I’m particularly fond of their East meets West design selection which is perhaps very apt for Macau is one of those places where the colonial influence still permeates the fabric of their society. Singapore was colonised by the British, but somehow we’ve lost their colonial influence and charm as Singapore grew into an empty glitzy metropolis shell.
