Here’s a personal plug for my blog that covers food, travel and everything in between for Macao’s TDM TV channel.
I use Macao and Macau interchangeably and both are accepted in its use, although the old and original spelling was Macao. Myth has it that the name is derived from the Cantonese name for “Ma Gok” the Goddess of the sea. When Portuguese sailors arrived on land just outside the A-Ma temple, they had asked for the name of the place and they were told in Cantonese Ma Gok, and the phonetics was translated into Macao.
