Siam Discovery – The Exploratorium Bangkok

The Exploratorium at Siam Discovery showcases the latest designers works in a mall setting. Since it’s recent re-opening, The Exploratorium showcases a new seamless retail concept of “presenting a story rather than just products”. The interiors by Japanese interior design firm Nendo is stunning. While retail flow spaces aren’t novel – Lane Crawford in Hong Kong does a great job, but Nendo’s modular signature style shines through from bags, shoes displays to optical showcases.

I am obsessed about user/consumer experiences and interfaces/interactivity UX and UI in digital speak, so I am always thrilled when hotels, malls and retail spaces get it right – where there is a flow in activity and experiences and everything well thought through. I love the floor that celebrates local Thai designers with a myriad of interesting designs from household.

The place is massive over 40,000 sqm of space spanning 8 floors.

It is also home to many firsts – The world’s first Issey Miyake concept store outside of Japan called World of Issey Miyaki.

Billboard Café, the world’s most recognised music magazine opens its café designed for music lovers. Exercise buffs would be pleased to have a look around Nike’s latest and only concept store in South East Asia.

There’s a sweets corner in the lower floors and Tib and I were looking at the water molecule gelatinous dessert and finally gave in to curiosity to try it. The bubble tasted like gelatine but such a wonderful combination with soya bean powder and black honey.

We tried out the “Social Discovery” corner where you type in your Instagram name and it pulls everything up and organises it by photos, text and emojis. A collaborative effort with New York design agency Black egg, Samsung and Bangkok Airways.
