Where to eat in Hong Kong for Travel + Leisure SEA

I contributed to this month’s July 2019 Travel + Leisure Southeast Asias Food Issue on where we eat in Hong Kong. It is by no means limited to this list, but I had to cramp everything into 4 full pages with a balance of local, western and fine dining spots.

There are many other favourites, I would add to the list like Michelin *** L’atelier de Robuchon Hong Kong, Gough on Gough, L’Envol at St Regis, or Hing Kee on Nathan Road for seafood etc. Most of the places are centred around Hong Kong island central-admiralty-causeway bay as it’s the best way to navigate and eat as much as possible if you only had 48hours in Hong Kong.

As always, I pay for all my meals, and invitations have #byinvitation disclaimers. The reality is it is difficult to pay for all your meals if you subsist on a freelance writer’s paycheck. Like many other freelance writers, I do content creation jobs, copywriting and marketing strategy consulting which pays my bills and my travel.

There’s no perfection situation, but I don’t mind the hustle for the freedom to work anytime and any place. I am also ever thankful for my husband’s generosity when I tag along on his work trips to find stories or when he plans vacations.

I don’t write much about food – unless it’s from a cultural heritage angle, to avoid any conflict of interest since my husband works in the industry.

Also, for the record of people romanticising my life. I rarely ever dine at Caprice (one or twice a year) and my husband always makes me pay full price, contrary to popular belief, no special treatment there. Ha 😢

We have very clear boundaries drawn for professional and personal life and it never mixes.
