There are so many shopping choices in Hong Kong and while I try my best to shop secondhand, sometimes, it calls for brand new gifts. We love Rebooked and Greenladies, the quality control at Retyle has fallen drastically so you never know what you’re going to get or what you pay for and organising returns is a hassle. That said, still, you can look for the new with tags items which at least guarantees that it’s not going to be worn out when described as “good as new”.
This is my go-to store when I’m shopping for birthday and newborn gifts. They have a great variety of French toys, accessories and clothes (although we’ve never purchased clothes as I couldn’t justify the expense on my kid for something he’d wear for a couple of months and outgrow.)
This is a one-stop shop for all baby essentials and we’ve done plenty of shopping for ourselves and friends here – from nail clippers to sleep bags and a pram. I’ve used both the shopping online option especially during Covid as well as check out their physical store – the one in Prince’s building in central is large and well-stocked.
They have a beautiful selection of imported toys, very well curated fashionable items (sunglasses!) and larger ticket items like furniture and the beautiful Baghera rider cars. The other thing we love is their playroom at Pacific Place. We also love their annual activity parties from Easter to Halloween. Here’s their lineup of Christmas activities.
I have to confess this shop we visit often is largely because of it’s central location and close proximity to work/activities/home. It’s a quick stop to pick up a Jellycat plushie as a gift. They have lots of lego, remote control cars and all sorts of toys for different age groups.
I loiter here often for the books and stationery. Also where I pick up my Moleskin annual diary this time of the year. There’s puzzles, books and plenty of toy options as well as fun Hong Kong souvenirs from The Lion Rock Press – another local brand we love. Did you get your fun Hong Kong Christmas baubles yet?
Hong Kong is best known for its shopping, so there are plenty of options. Here’s my top 5 spots for convenience and also for their selection and thoughtful curation of items, whilst bearing in mind how to shop consciously and sustainably (inevitably very difficult when shopping for children in this joyful season of gifting).
