The personal style colour palette or personal colour analysis, was all the rage a few years ago, especially in Korea, and I had this done last year when I visited my close friend in Seoul. Turns out I have made poor colour decisions my entire life and have too many pieces of clothing not suited to bring out the best in me.

As I delved deeper into colour theory, I realised that colour choices are not merely aesthetic but also psychological – it definitely affects how you feel. Like that Estee Lauder tagline “look good, feel good.” We had our session via a translator as the entire session was conducted in Korean! My friend who speaks and reads Korean found it through the forums and said it was one of the most popular.

I went to Seoul to catch up with a close friend and she suggested we try out the colour consult that’s really trendy. I’m not a follower of fashion trends and honestly shop for necessity, rather than want and try to abide by sustainable principles of buying only what you need. Infact, I am in need to declutter more than acquire more clothes.

I now view my wardrobe as a canvas for self-expression, where each piece carries a story and a purpose. My adventure has only just begun, and I’m excited to see how my style evolves. While I had always considered myself to be a “Summer,” learning that I lean towards the “Autumn strong” palette opened a world of possibilities, and fortunately, pastels are still flattering. No to shades of grey and blues that make me look dowdy. I would never have known as I own alot of blue outfits!
I began to explore how colours like burnt sienna, olive green, and deep burgundy complemented my skin tone – colours I never gravitate towards. This journey of self-discovery led me to appreciate the emotional resonance that colour carries. I also discovered that animal prints, once deemed too bold for my taste, aligned with my new palette.
This gave me so much insight on makeup and clothing. I didn’t set about to buy a whole new wardrobe but have been more mindful of purchases when I do.
