Being the curious #FOMO (fear of missing out) tourist that I am, I had to make it to the first Din Tai Fung in the world, which of course started in Taipei. I have been to many Din Tai Fungs over the years in Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Macau to name a few, so what better place to have a peek at the grand dame.
Everything was clockwork, consistent, clean and super friendly Taiwanese service.
Is the hype all worth it? Not really, the food was just as good and consistent as it’s global outlets. The place looks well maintained, probably renovated from its 1970s days? Still, I was very glad that there were no snaking queues to get a spot. It was easy as I was alone and it took 10 minutes for me to get a table for a late lunch at 3pm.
I ordered of course the usual – xiaolongbao, there is a tank card with illustrations showing novices how to begin eating them. I randomly ordered a few other steamed items, but didn’t fancy the glutinous rice dumplings but ordered it to try since several tables had ordered that same dish.
First time using my new Canon1200D, so excuse the photos as I am in the midst of getting the hang of it with my photography classes.
More on what I did in 36hours in Taipei coming up in a next post. :)
