Textiles and fabric shopping has been one of my big loves for a while and I really miss Beijing, searching for vintage fabrics in the least likely places and working with my tailor to get things made.
Only now, I try to sew them myself!
I have never shopped for textiles at Arab street before but was told I’d find lots of good things and came back with a pretty decent haul.
Here are some of my favourite shops:
- Gim Joo Textile 90 Arab St
- Bian Swee Hin and Co 107 Arab St
- Aik Bee 69 Arab St
- Bobby Silk Palace 57A Arab St
-
Mahoco Impex 51 Arab St
My best advice is enjoy just combing the whole row on Arab street – there’s so much to discover. And those sequin pieces, I bought the aztec for my sewing teacher, 35SGD/yard.

Pre/post shopping, head over to Zam Zams for their famous Murtabak or Alaturka for a mezza platter and hummus.
