I walked for 8 hours today in this gorgeous weather in Macau and I chanced upon this store SARTOR LAB. This beautiful minimalist boutique with airy, stark interiors and two full racks of pant suits gives off an air of an upscale New York boutique. Are we really in Macau?
I know the young hipsters are doing plenty with the café scene these days, but this gem is a great addition to the local community! And I’m all for supporting local talent and their businesses.
I’m sure we all agree that good taste is a gift and I think these two men (Victor and Kade) have something going on here!
I popped in and met Victor, one of the founders who tells me they opened just 6 weeks ago and are already busy in production of made to measure suits for Chinese New Year coming up. Victor has returned to Macau after 6 years in London and his New York trained business partner Kade Chou graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology New York, comes from a family of tailors – his dad has been a tailor over 13 years. Their goal is to bring perfect cut and fit with the best fabrics carefully and meticulously sourced to Macau.
So, their raison d’etre? “Sharp tailoring, a lean flattering fit, clean unobtrusive detailing to create a Satorial gentlemen attire.”
There’s a small selection of ready to wear, prices start from 1,800MOP, and their wide selection of fabric swatches range from Zegna, Thomas Mason, Vitale Barberis and stacks of lots more, as well as their very own Sartor Lab House fabric. Tailor made shirts begin at 380MOP.
Made to Measure suits range from 1,800MOP to about 10,oooMOP, all depends on the fabric and it takes about 2-3 weeks including several fittings for this to be ready. Over the busy season like Chinese New Year, it should take about 3-4 weeks.
Victor adds “Our core belief is that a perfect suit begins with “good design” by use of the best fabrics in class and good construction practice.”
Well, watch out Macau, these impeccably dressed young men are bringing Sartorial into casino city!
