Excellent Suckling Pig At Restaurant Carlos Macau

Restaurant Carlos is a Portuguese/Macanese restaurant that serves up delicious, fuss free authentic cuisine. Service is friendly, prompt and the pace between your dishes is upbeat and rather quick, so you don’t lose momentum with the food.

I have never tried the Tacho here, which is a Macanese winter casserole/stew that is only served on the winter menu – and a Macanese gourmet recommended this must-try dish here. Other mainstay dishes like white wine sauce garlic clams are your staples, the suckling roast pig over rice – cooked perfectly, the meat still tender, moist and rich, while the crispy thin skin crackles as you bite through it. And then the Minchi, while not my favourite amongst the Macanese restaurant (I like Litoral and APOMAC’s minchi better) is a typical introductory meal to visiting friends who want a piece of Portugal and Macau in their dinner plate – Carlos is a great place to take them for a first dinner in Macau.

The house wines are decent and cheap, a little carafe that serves 2 glasses of red was 45MOP and dishes are in the 120MOP range, the suckling piglet was a little pricier at 240MOP, our total bill came up to about 600MOP for two, but as usual we overordered to satisfy our greed.

**With this freezing winter in Macau this 2016, be sure to order the Tacho, a Macanese winter stew of mixed meats and cabbage in a deliciously tasty broth. It’s only available in winter, Order it!

Restaurante Carlos (can be a little tricky to find but it’s really close to the Guan Yim statue but the restaurant faces in land, about one block down from the statue.) And a stone’s throw from MGM’s taxi stand.
