I got invited to a media tasting at the Black Sheep Group’s latest Indian restaurant Prince and the Peacock over the Summer. Under the direction of chef Palesh Mitra who helms one Michelin starred New Punjab Club, the menu here features seasonal dishes across the different regions of India.
The dining room is stunning with all its colonial charm, along with a private room tucked away in the corner. The bathroom has been a hit with influencers capturing content – beautiful tiles and wallpaper, like you’ve entered someone’s home.
I’m still learning about the South Asian continent and their rich and diverse flavours, so I’m no expert having only been to Indian once and growing up on mostly Southern Indian food available in Singapore, a cuisine that has also evolved from the immigrant Indian community for the Singaporean tastebuds.
I really enjoyed our dinner at Prince and the Peacock and really happy that the options in the city for South Asian food is expanding so we could learn more about the rich and vast flavours of the India. Some of the dishes were really fiery and spicy and I loved that they kept authentic flavours without dialing down the heat, it came with ample warning of course. There were all the crowd pleasers like samosas, minced lamb, tandoori chicken along with fiery dishes I haven’t had before – growing my repertoire of Indian dishes and learning more about Indian cuisine, history and culture a plate at a time at Prince and the peacock.
Located in Tai Kwun, I’d recommend starting with aperatif at the garden of Magistracy before heading to dinner -they have a wonderful selection of non-alcoholic cocktails that I learnt are called “zero-proof”, instead of the old “mocktail”. I’m looking forward to returning on my own dime.
